In 1979 I acquired a reed boat in South America and shipped it back to Canada. Don consented to over-winter my "weird souvenir" in his barn at Mount Hope. That's when I first saw the old '41 Dodge pickup - encrusted in the dust of decades. The rental deal on the boat was to help Don tow the old truck down Highway 6 for a brake job - Don confident - me sceptical. That was the start of Don's labour of love with that truck. I did not see the truck again for over 20 years until February 2000 when I stared at it on display under the wing of a WWII Spitfire at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum near Mount Hope. Stunned by what I saw, I phoned Don. "I can't believe what you did with that old truck - how does it run?" "What d'ya mean how does it run - didn't you see the plates?" "Ya but . . ." "It runs great, let's you and me take it for a cruise down to Long Point." "Geez will it make it that far and back?" "No problem, its in better shape than you are . . . . . ha ha ha!!" "OK, let's do it." That trip was not to be, but I'd bet the old Dodge would have made it. Don died on September 14, 2000, after battling a rare form of liver cancer. He was 51 and leaves his wife Elaine and son Michael. Don Logan was a member of the first graduating class (1973) of land use planners at Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto Ontario Canada. I had the priviledge of working with Don at Philips Engineering for five years and as his business partner for two years. He was a dedicated worker with his church and with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute. His partners at BLS Planning Associates Inc., the Class of '73 and Don's friends and colleagues have established a bursary in his memory. Contributions are welcomed: DON
